Katarina started skating when she was five years old. The talent she displayed soon became apparent and she was accepted to a private school that caters for kids with a flair for sports in Karl-Marx-Stadt. This is where she had a conversation with their coach Jutta M ller. Witt made her mark when she was ranked second in the 1982 World Championships, held in Copenhagen. After that, she began dominating the sport thanks to elegance and grace. Olympic victory At Sarajevo, in the Sarajevo Winter Games of 1984, Katarina Witz won the women's gold medal in figure skating following a close-fought competition. The winner of the competition was a more competitive competition four years later. Witt actually fell short of the free skating contest, however she earned the gold medal based upon her results during the compulsory figure and the short-form program. Witt was the only woman since Sonja Haenie who was the winner of a second time in figure skating. Hall of Fame Witt had many successes as an acting career, however she returned to her sports for competition at her participation in the Lillehammer Winter Games of 1994. The team finished seventh, but she wowed the crowd even though she didn't win a medal. Witt was admitted into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame in 1995.
